2/22/13 Class Structure/Homework/Notes

Class Structure:

  • Tagline
  • RR Format
  • MLA In-Text Citation
  • Précis Format/Example
  • Continue Peer Review

Tagline: Changing your tagline in WordPress.

RR Format: Reading responses are a mix of summary and personal response that begins with a direct quotation from the reading. Consider the quotation  a point of entry, both for you as a writer and for the reader.  RRs have a 400 word minimum, which does not include the direct quotation at the beginning of the text.

MLA In-Text Citations: We will get into MLA formatting issues more directly in a week or so, but for now, use the following rule as a guideline: When you quote directly from a text, include quotation marks at both the beginning and ending of the passage, followed by a parenthetical citation, which includes the author’s last name and the page number/numbers from which the quote is taken on the outside of the end quotes, with punctuation following.  “(Author’s Last Name Page#).

Rhetorical Précis: Follow the template for your précis. Chelsea has a good example of following the template here.

Peer Review: Exchange your essay with two different readers. Readers are to read and comment on the essay. Discuss in small groups.

Homework Due: Two additional copies of your essay for peer review.

Homework Assigned: Last day for late work today by midnight. Essay draft two due before class Monday. They Say/I Say for Monday’s class.
