2/15/13 Class Structure/Homework/Notes

Class Structure:

  • Questions about Personal Persuasive Paper
  • Freewriting (5 min)
  • In-class reading (“I Want a Wife;” and “Naps”)
  • Review Rhetorical Précis

I Want a Wife:

Naps:

Homework Due: Blog Post “Reading With the Grain, Reading Against the Grain, and Rhetorical Précis.

Homework Assigned: Read “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and “Into the Electronic Millennium“. In “Into the Electronic Millennium,” pay attention to how the author uses personal stories (anecdotes) to frame his essay. Think about how they allow him to make the arguments he makes in the piece. “Me Talk Pretty One Day” is not a persuasive piece, but I have included it so you can get an idea of the range of voice and style that is acceptable within essays and personal narratives.  Create a post on your blog with a rhetorical précis for one of the two pieces assigned, and continue working on your paper.
