  • Introduce Personal Persuasive paper

  • Dave Eggers essay/reading with the grain and against the grain
  • Rhetorical précis

Corporate Activity 1: Read “Serve or Fail” as a class. Approach the text from the perspective of a believer. Five to seven minutes to write a summary/response from  a “believing” (with the grain) perspective.

Read “Serve or Fail” as a class again, this time from the perspective of a doubter (reading against the grain). Five to seven minutes to write a summary/response from the doubter’s perspective.

Discuss results as a class.

Homework Due: Reading only

Homework Assigned:  Make a blog post revising and expanding the work you did in class today. You will need to include three subheadings–Reading With the Grain, Reading Against the Grain, and Rhetorical Précis. Each sub heading should be about 200 words, for approx. 600 words total .  For example:

Reading with the Grain

200 word summary and response on “Serve or Fail” reading with the grain.

Reading against the Grain

200 word summary and response on “Serve or Fail” reading against the grain.

Rhetorical Précis

Four line rhetorical précis following the template reviewed in class.
